One of the things I love most about ChalkItUp is talking to clubs and hearing what's making their competition day better. But the best bit is that they always have ideas: a small thing that would save ten minutes, or a feature that would let them run their competition their way.

Most of what we've built this autumn started with one of those conversations. Here are the ones that made the biggest difference.

A club wanted the day to look like their competition, not ours

Upload your club's logo once and it appears everywhere people see your competition: the public leaderboard, the Live Scoreboard on the big screen, the digital programme on every parent's phone, the printable start lists, and now the coach sign-in too.

An organiser needed dates of birth kept with their entries, and in the export

ChalkItUp now stores each gymnast's date of birth. The age group is worked out for you, and if the competition date moves, everyone is re-aged automatically. Export every entry to Excel, date of birth included, in running order with club, level, rotation and check-in status. Imports accept dates the way people actually write them. And once the competition is over, dates of birth are deleted automatically, in line with our data minimisation principles, so you're not holding children's data any longer than you need to.

A club spotted that their judges kept getting signed out, and asked what happens if a tablet dies

Competition day doesn't stop for a tablet any more. A panel signs in once in the morning and stays signed in through the screensaver, a locked screen and the lunch break. If a tablet does die, or a judge scores on paper, the desk enters the score straight into the system. Judges can also mark a gymnast as withdrawn from an apparatus without leaving the panel.

Our customer wanted coaches to get in without a fuss

The invite link now signs a coach straight in, with the club and PIN filled in, and each 6-digit PIN only opens its own club.

In trial: multi-level gymnasts. One gymnast, one bib, a different level on each apparatus, each ranked in its own level and age group. If your competition works this way, get in touch.

Keep the ideas coming

Every one of these started with a conversation. If something about your competition day could be easier, email hello@chalkitup.co.uk or just reply to one of my emails. I read every one.
