Why I built it

I was the parent, the volunteer, and the person fixing the spreadsheet.

ChalkItUp started because competition day kept falling back on the same tools: spreadsheet formulas, manual checks, and too much pressure on the people doing the work.

I knew that if I could make the setup cleaner and the scoring simpler, clubs could run better events without needing extra technical help. So I built the thing I wanted to use myself.

What began as a fix for one club became something other clubs asked for too. That told me the problem wasn't local — it was shared across the sport.

The goal is simple: help clubs run a calmer, more reliable competition day.

Common questions

Do judges need to download an app?

No. Judges open a link on any phone or tablet, type the competition code and their PIN, and they're scoring. No download, no account, no setup on the day.

Can I change my scoring setup after creating the competition?

Yes — almost everything can be edited at any time. The only thing that locks is the scoring mode once the first score is entered, which protects the integrity of results already submitted.

What scoring formats are supported?

Simple (one total score), D+E (Difficulty plus Execution), and D+E+ND (full FIG WAG with Neutral Deductions). You choose when setting up the competition.

Can coaches see only their own gymnasts?

Yes. Share the coach view link and coaches see a club picker — they select their club and can view their gymnasts' full score breakdowns without seeing data from other clubs.

What happens if I need to correct a score?

Scores can always be corrected by admins — even after the competition is complete. The original score is kept in the audit trail and the correction takes effect immediately.

Could I use this for a different sport?

Whilst ChalkItUp is built around gymnastics rules, the scoring configuration is flexible. If our standard formats don't quite fit, Simple Score mode lets you enter final scores for almost any discipline — so it's worth a try.

Is support included?

Yes. Email support is included with all plans.

What does the Club Annual plan cover?

Unlimited competitions for one club, at one venue, for a full year. It's one account per club — great value if you're running three or more events a year.

What other features are included?

Move to electronic sign-in with our dedicated check-in portal, and set up your rounds and rotations in a few clicks. We also cover team scoring and more complex multi-judge per apparatus panels for clubs that need them.

Can I control the publishing of scores?

Of course. Instant results are great, but you have full control over when judge scores hit the public leaderboard. You can also choose to share results in more traditional ways — over email or as printouts — if that suits your event better.
